0 License Plate Game

August 3, 2009

I'm always thinking about games for the car to keep the kids entertained. I already shared the ISpy book that I made. Here is another activity I came up with:

The License Plate Game

I searched the Internet for images of license plates from all 50 states. I pasted them into rows in Illustrator and printed onto an 11x17 sheet of paper and laminated it.

My 8 year old and I now have a game to play together on long trips while the hubby is driving. We came up with three ways to play (I'm sure there are others!). 1) Cooperative play - we each keep our eyes peeled for license plates. When we spot one, say "Maine", we check it off on the board using a dry erase marker. We work together to fill the board. 2) Competitive play - We each have our own board and dry erase marker. When we spot a license plate we haven't found, we shout out the state and check it off the board. The other person can not check off that state unless they spot another car with that state's license plate. At the end of the ride, the person with the most checked off, wins. 3) We each have our own "board" and marker. When we spot a license plate, we check it off on our board but we don't call out the plates we find. At the end of the car ride, we see who has the most checked off, that person wins. It is loads of fun and we like to brag about how many we have found! This just adds to the fun because now we are looking for Punch Buggies AND license plates! :) (Tip - you can make hash marks on the back of your license plate game board for the amount of punch buggies each person has found!).

Happy traveling!
