Hello to all my faithful readers.
I just wanted to let you now that I am taking a short hiatus for a week or two. My cousin is in the hospital due to a congenital heart defect and the outlook is grim. He is only 20 years old. Although we knew he most likely wouldn't live as long a life as you or I, this issue arose rather suddenly and shocked us all.
Michael has a heart condition called Hypoplastic left heart. According to the American Heart Association HLHS is where the heart’s left side — including the aorta, aortic valve, left ventricle and mitral valve — is underdeveloped. The oldest living person (to my knowledge) with HLHS is 30. Michael has had several open heart surgeries to correct the problem, but there is no cure, other than having a heart transplant, which his family chose not to do for many reasons. Needless to say, because of this defect he had veins growing into his lungs which, overnight, started causing him breathing issues. The next thing we knew he was in the hospital and his health was declining fast. As I type this they are flying a special team of doctors in from Boston to perform a second surgery (he is not stable so can not be transported to them). The first exploratory surgery they performed yesterday had to be stopped due to the amount of bleeding.
Michaels sister is one of my best friends and has been since I was six months old. His parents were like second parents to me and my older brother growing up. I love him and his family dearly and am praying for them during this dark time and we would appreciate all of your prayers as well.
Thank you all.
