I finished a few more Christmas gifts and am really excited about them! My brothers children have so many toys and I can never find anything new to get them. This year I decided to make them Outting Bags. What are those, you ask? Let me tell you:
They are lined totes that I made and filled with items the kids could entertain themselves with while at restaurants, doctors offices, etc.
For my 7 year old nephew I made an army bag - complete with army men, helicopter, plane, a laminated play mat and coloring book. I created the mat on the computer and had it laminated at Staples and it is multi-purpose - placemat, coloring mat (dry erase), and play mat for Army men!
(Excuse the pictures - the lighting was horrible and they really don't do the gift justice!) For my 3 year old niece I did a My Little Pony bag that contained mini My Little Ponies, a play mat (same as above but with a different theme), and a coloring book.
I can't wait to give them each their bag of goodies! I spoke to my Sister-in-Law and she is excited as well. She plans on keeping the bags in the car so that they will always be at the ready.
Happy sewing!

Such a great idea. This would be perfect for a gift exchange at daycare. Thank you!
ReplyDeleteSo cute! On this year's sewing list so far is a lunch bag and a makeup bag...I better get started!
ReplyDeleteThanks so much for stopping by my blog today. These are just darling! Such a clever and useful gift!

ReplyDeleteThese are terrific! You are very creatvie. I'm sure this is a much appreciated gift by mom as well as the kiddies!
ReplyDeleteWow I could have used those yesterday in the car with my 6 year old boy and 4 year old girl...got an extra set?

Those are wonderful! I especially love the mats. Great idea! Thanks for sharing with Made it Monday! Jules
ReplyDeleteThese are such cute bags..What a great idea for kids. I am sure it will keep them busy.
ReplyDeleteI'm curious how you made the mats on the computer. Did you find them somewhere and just increase or decrease the size to suit your needs? Or did you start from scratch to create them? I love them and think they would be perfect for my 3 year old son and 4 year old daughter. Any help you can offer would be great. Thanks so much and I'm sure the kids loved them!
ReplyDeleteNicole - I made the mats on the computer via Adobe Illustrator (which I realize most people don't have)...
ReplyDeleteI have been thinking about making customized mats available as a printable pdf through my Etsy shop, if you're interested, let me know. You could print them at home if you have a printer that can print 11x17 or they could be printed at Staples, Kinkos and the like.
I'm definitely interested. I think they'd be great for my kids. Let me know if you decide to add them to your shop. Thanks!
ReplyDeleteI like the idea of having a special bag and toys just for outtings. It makes those toys "fresh" and therefore more fun to play with. I'll be making a few of these as gifts for my godson and his siblings. Thanks again for another creative and useful idea.
