I've jumped on the Zipper Flower Bandwagon! I found this adorable houndstooth military style hat at, of all places, Kmart! Yes, I said Kmart. I loved it, but I love almost all things houndstooth. I bought it and brought it home and started thinking it could use some jazzing up. I remembered this great zipper flower over at Craftaholics Anonymous and knew it would be the perfect touch. I chose to use the CA method because Linda's tutorial didn't include any sewing, and that fit my mood perfectly. After making one I decided it needed a cluster so I added a few more and love the result:
However, I had to make it work my own way. I only could find a 20" black zipper with silver metal teeth. I decided that I could make that work, so no splicing was required for me. I was able to make all three flowers out of the single zipper that I purchased at Joanns with my 40% off coupon!
Sumo's Sweet Stuff has another great tutorial with the traditional Zipper Flower Rosette and also one with pedals. Martha Stewart also has a Pedal Zipper flower tutorial.
Happy Flower Making!
