6 A dino, a circle and a train...

September 4, 2010

What do these three things all have in common? I painted them onto my sons corkboards!

Since getting my sons new bedroom furniture and rearranging his room we had a blank wall to work with.  I realized he didn't have a place to hang his memorabilla, a snapshot of him and dad with Thomas the Train, favorite birthday cards, artwork, etc. So I thught a corkboard would be perfect.

Well at Staples I found these 4 corkboard 12"x12" tiles for $5 and snapped them right up.  I started brainstorming options to decorate them and figured the easiest would be to paint them.

I grabbed the green paint that we had on my sons walls, a paint brush, some cardstock, pencil and scissors and made these:

This is what I did:  I freehanded the dino and train onto cardstock (I traced a bowl for the circle).  Cut them out, lay them onto your corkboard and then paint right onto the cork, making sure to push the paint off the cardstock, not towards it (otherwise it will go UNDER the paper).  I did three coats because the cork is pretty pourous.

NOTE: be sure to be careful when taking the cork tiles form the package.  I actually tore one a little when I ripped open the plastic!  These tiles are actually sort of thin and the tacks can't be pushed all the way through, so keep that in mind if you are worried about walls. My son is still young so I will be in charge of the pins for a while, so I'm not concerned.

My lil guy ADORES his boards.  Who thought such a little thing would make him so happy!  He told EVERYONE we saw that he had "boards in his room".

OK, you get why I did a dino and a train, but why a circle?  WELL... I decided it would be a face.  I printed out my sons picture, cut out his eyes, nose and mouth and glued them to  push pins and now we can arrange silly faces on his circle board!

Happy Crafting.
