10 HOW TO: Work through Blogger Photo Insert Issues

October 24, 2010

It looks like there is a glitch with the new(ish) Blogger photo uploader.  I've been reading comments and posts all over the place about people not able to upload images to their post.  I've been running into the same issue, but have discovered there is a rhyme and rhythm.

The first time I click the insert picture button and have the image upload window appear I can hit browse and upload an image.  If I try to do it a second time during the same post it will not let me.  I am not sure why this is or when Blogger will be fixing it, HOWEVER you can get around it.  It is annoying and cumbersome, but here you go:

Your first option is:
When you are ready to insert your photo, click on your Insert Image button, upload your photo and add it to your post.  Continue to type up your post.  If you were to try to upload another image you would not be able to.  You could get to the picture uploader but when you click browse nothing will happen.  If this happens to you, don't worry.  Just click SAVE NOW.  Go to Edit Posts.  Select your post draft.  Now you will be able to upload another photo.  Let's say you continue with your post and realize you need another image.  SHOOT!  Well guess what, you'll still not be able to upload a new one, so again, click on SAVE NOW, and do it all again.

You do have a second option:
Upload all of your images at once. Now I know sometimes we don't have all of our images set at the beginning of a post, so if you don't work this way, you may want to until this glitch is fixed!

Basically what this means is when you first get into your post editor, click on your Insert Image button.  Click browse and select your image.  While that is uploading click browse again and select your second image, so on and so forth.  Once they are all uploaded you can insert all into your post, OR you can insert one.  Type your post until the point where you want to insert another image, click the Insert Image post and then choose From This Blog.  Find the image you want and click add selected.

Happy Blogging!

  1. Thank you for posting something about this! I was wondering if I was doing something wrong! It takes much longer now to put a post together, I sure hope they fix this quickly!

  2. Thanks for sharing, I also noticed that if you upload all of your photos at once, if you don't "add" them all to your post at the same time when you go back to add another one, they aren't all uploaded anymore. Ex. In the old version you could upload 5 pictures, insert one, write, insert another, write, etc. I hope they add that feature back!

  3. Glad you figured this out.
I have not even changed to the 'new' blogger. I tried it a few times when it first came out. I got so frustrated I went back to the old one.
I know I'm going to have to change eventually, but not till i have to. Figure by then they will have changed the whole thing again anyway. =/
Grateful for people (like you) who take time to figure this all out to help us. thanks

  5. It works just fine for me too. I use Firefox as my browser though. If you use Explorer it doesn't like Blogger.

  6. Heidi,

Actually they are still there. They are now just under the FROM THIS BLOG tab! Or if you can't find them there go to the Picasa Tab. That is where blogger stores your photos (in a Picasa album).

  7. What I can't figure out, is that even when I put my cursor in the spot I want a picture to go, if I add a new photo, it will not put it where I left my cursor; but on TOP of the page, on top of any previous photos I might have uploaded. Have you ever run into that? It's so frustrating!

It's like I have to load photos from last to first, to get them in the right order. I must be doing something REALLY wrong!

  8. I love your tips! You can also use Picasa to upload your photos to Picasa Web Albums and then you don't have to worry about using the Upload part of the uploader at all. I posted about that here in one of my weekly posts at Housewife Eclectic. That post gives an overview of the new image uploader (as I understand it anyway :) and then a tutorial for how to use Picasa to upload your photos and then insert them in your posts. I personally find using Picasa easier and faster, and I avoid any and all (so far) of the issues with the new uploader.
