2 Plastic Canvas Car Playset - FINAL

October 16, 2010

Now that your grass, roads and sides are completed we are going to move onto the fun part. Let's put together your buildings!  First cover the entire roof piece (I didn't do that in the pictures, but it is actually easier to do first).

Next, attach the walls to the roof.  It is the same process as attaching the side panels to the main panels in the last tutorial.

Once you have all four sides attached now cover the roof as usual.

Next move on to the walls.  First add in your windows and doors with your blue and black yarns (or whatever color you wish to use).  Real simple, just put squares/rectangles where you want them on the building.  Now take your building color and fill in one wall.  Connect the corner of the walls the same way you attached the roof.  Now continue with the rest of the walls.  (sorry no images, but I think you have the process done now).

To attach the building start from the bottom of your main piece and go up through the bottom square of one of your wall pieces.  Continue down through the main piece of canvas and back up through the inside wall of the building.  It is a bit awkward and may take a few minutes to complete, but it is simple enough.

If you want a door on your building - do this step BEFORE attaching the roof:  Choose which wall you want the door in.  I made my door about 8 squares wide to accommodate the micromachines and I also chose to center my door, but you can do it however you want.  From the bottom of the wall cut up all the way to the second square from the top.  Move over 8 squares and do the same.  Now you have a door flap.  You can now cover the building in yarn as stated above.

To add a pulley to open the door, tie a knot in your yarn and leave about an inch tail.  Go through the front of the door and all the way through the back wall of the building.  Make sure the door is closed.  Tie a knot and leave a one inch tail.  Now when you pull on the tail at the back wall your door will open!

If you want to make a car wash you just make a building with two walls and tie some yarn to the ceiling and let it hang down.

The gas pumps are put together the same way... but beware, these are small and a pain to make!

Now you are DONE.  I know it took some time, but your kiddos are going to LOVE this play set.  If you need any clarification on this tutorial series, please feel free to email me at 733blog(at)gmail.com!

UPDATE: 5 months later and my son is STILL playing with this playset!  I know it is cumbersome, but the reward of watching your child play and love it is so well worth it!

Happy Crafting!
