Friendly Tuesday :: Scraps N' Strings

If you would like to participate in Friendly Tuesday please email me at 733blog(at)gmail.com.

Hello seven thirty three Readers!! I'm Sammy from the blog

Scraps N' Strings

I'm so excited to be doing Friendly Tuesday here with Kim today! She is awesome. She was one of the first people to reach out to us when we started our blog and she has done an amazing job of helping a lot of beginner blogs get their feet off of the ground. Anyway, here is a fun project that I did recently that was really simple and a lot of fun!

I've been seeing elastic thread all over the place lately and I really wanted to find a project to try it out.  After much debate I decided that I wanted to make myself a scarf. I love scarves. I have about a billion of them, and I could have a billion more and still be wanting. This one is really fun and can be worn loose in the summer or can be wrapped tighter in the winter. I love it!
To make this scarf, I started with some plain white knit fabric
And cut a strip 14 inches wide. It was probably about 5 ft long, though I didn't measure, you can make it as long or as short as you want.
I used the Dritz brand elastic thread. I was about $1.50 a spool and can be found with the elastic at Joann's.
Hand thread the bobbin with the elastic thread and use plain thread on the top of your sewing machine. I used a straight stitch at a 2 1/2 length and set the tension on my machine to the highest setting possible. Starting at the bottom of my scarf, I started sewing an S shape through the length of the scarf.
And sewed clear from one end of the scarf to the other.
Next I folded it in half hotdog way, right sides together, and sewed along the edge.
And flipped the scarf right side out.
Next I took the two ends and sewed them together.
And that's it. Super easy and way fun. I love this plain but just think of all of the different fabric options and colors and patterns you could do!
Thanks for having me over Kim. It was loads of fun and I hope that you will all stop over at Scraps N' Strings and see all of the other fun stuff that we have there. See you all soon!

Here is the party invitation I came up with for my daughters 10th Birthday.  I am throwing her a spa themed friend party.  She is inviting four girlfriends over for a relaxing afternoon of facials, manicures, pedicures and beauty sessions.

 Each girl will receive a gift certificate to the Green Mountain Day Spa.  The gift certificate earns them each lunch and a spa themed make-up bag complete with pedicure set, nail polish, lip balm, towel turban, spa slippers and body spray.

A spa-appropriate lunch will be served at noon.  And of course a spa-themed cake will serve as dessert. Following lunch I will take up the head beautician position and my cousin will join me as my assistant so that we can pamper the girls.  Lemonade and light snacks will be served during the beauty sessions.

Our basement will be transformed into a spa by adding tranquil music, pink and white streamers and a manicure/beauty station.  As well as pillows for comfy lounging and providing a perfect spot for girl talk.

Looking forward to sharing pictures of the party with you, but until then,

Happy Party Planning!

HOW TO: Remove or stylize image borders

4 comments:

Do you have a border around your images that you want to get rid of?  Or maybe style a bit more?
Here's how:

From your Blogger Dashboard click on Design, Click on Edit HTML.
It is always good to download your Full Template before making changes to your html.

In the html you want to locate the following code:

.post img, table.tr-caption-container {

The easiest way is to hit CTRL-F (for Windows) and in the find box type .post img

You then want to do the following to the code to remove the border:

*****
.post img, table.tr-caption-container {
padding:4px;
border:0px solid $bordercolor;
}
*****

Change the border pixels to 0 and that removes the border.

If you want to make a custom border you make a change to that same code.  If you want a dotted line you would change the word 'solid' to 'dotted'.  If you want the line thicker change the pixels to a higher number.  The higher the number the thicker the line.  To change the color you would need the HEX number of the color and you would replace $bordercolor with # and then the 6 digit HEX number.

Happy Border Removal!

Owl Weekly Meal Planner

39 comments:
As most of you know, I plan my meals on a weekly basis.  I originally created this one to replace my lack-luster computer paper list.  Because I loved that one so much I decided to make another one!  If you print out 52 inside pages you are covered for one full year!  Just bind it together (Staples or Fed-Ex Kinko's does it for cheap) and you'll have a great place for your menu planning.  And don't forget the matching recipe book!

Don't you think these would make great, inexpensive gifts for any newlywed?

Download you own Owl Weekly Meal Planner.
I've also made it available via Google Docs.
For the matching Owl Recipe Book, click HERE.

UPDATE: I have made these available as a free download and will not be emailing them. I do apologize for the inconvenience, but I cannot keep up with all the requests.  I'm glad to see that so many people are getting a use out of these.  I have personally used the meal planner for two years now and it still works exactly the way I created it for!  AND since I have it bound, if I can't think of a dinner I can flip back through the pages to get ideas.

The end has come...

No, not to seven thirty three... but to reallyCRAFTYstudio, my Etsy shop.  I haven't been adding items or spending time on it and it is just sort of sitting there, so I decided to just let it die.  But I do know that there were some items that people really enjoyed in the shop, so why not let those items continue to live?

 That is why I am offering you the following items that had been listed in my shop - FOR FREE!
Do you know someone that is expecting?  Need a fun favor idea?
Download the Ready to Pop Tag Boy Version or Girl Version for free ya'all!

And do you have a little Superhero getting ready to celebrate a birthday,
then download a favor bag topper, a MASK Your True Identity sign, Superhero ID's, a Superhero Academy sign (with space on the bottom for you to add wording, such as Welcome) and a Superhero World sign.

So maybe I should say thank you?  Maybe, say, with a giveaway?  Maybe a blog design giveaway?
What do you guys think?  But first I have to hit 1,000, so if you have stopped by week in and out but not hit the Follow button, do so now!  You just might tip the scale.

Thanks for reading!  Check out all these smiling faces I see when I log in to my blog:

With a spa party on the mind I had lots of fun looking up soap products on Etsy.

Here are a few I thought were pretty clever:

Fish in a BAG Soaps from Carolina Soap Lady

Chips and Cheese Fun FOod Soaps from AJ's Sweet Soap's (such a clever name too!).

Popcorn Soap from Howard's Home's.

Skull Soap with KC Soaps n' More.

There are so many other fun soaps - just go to Etsy and search for Novelty Soaps.  You are sure to be amazed!
