7 Meet My Nemeses:

February 22, 2011

What do you mean you don't see him?!?  He's RIGHT there, front and center!  Look again.

YES.  That's right.  That RUG.  I loved it when I purchased it.  So nice and thick and beautiful.  But then I got him home and he reared his ugly, shaggy head!  The thing sheds like there is no tomorrow.  Seriously, am I stuck with the shedding or is it new rug syndrome?  Although he is a year old now, so he really isn't new in my book.

When we first got him all I had was my central vac which was just not up to the task of keeping Shaggy-here's fiber-bunnies from reaching every corner of my living room... not to mention under the couches - ohhh, don't get me going about under the couches!

Then I met my hero:

This guy grabs those fibers like nobody's business!

This is under one minute of running good ole' Sucky over Shaggy {hmmmm... does that sound inappropriate?}:

See?  {No - that is not all grossness on my rug - I took the rug picture BEFORE vacumming! Those are the fibers - and maybe a little of my hair - that you are looking at!} You can only imagine where those would go if I didn't have a good vacumm to manage it all!

In your experience am I bound forever with a fiberous rug {until I can't stand it anymore and buy a new one} or will it eventually slow its shedding down?

I'm still on vacation without computer access, but seriously had to get this off my chest, so won't you please help me?   I look forward to reading your resonses when I get home!

  1. I have never had a rug that shed like that before! But my dog does. Holy moly, I can only image what it looks like under your couch...wish I could help so sorry!!! I know when you get new carpet the carpet sheds for some time, but I'm thinking a year....can you take it back and say it's a lemon??

  2. I had that vacuum. It worked wonders on dog hair. A note of caution- don't leave it sitting on your rug while you use the hose. I learned the hard way that the brush keeps turning while the hose is in use. It burned my rug.

  3. I have a rug that did the same thing. It finally has quit shedding and we are friends again. But up until it stopped it was a MESS so I feel for you! Mine is 100% wool, so I wonder if it is the nature of the all natural wool ones to do this. I have to say though that is is a tough rug, I have had mine for 5 years now and it still looks great and it gets constant rough traffic.

  4. My mom has a rug like that in her house. She's had it for over a year and every time she vacuums it she gets that same result. It seems like it's slowly shedding less & less. But I'm convinced she'll eventually just have a bald rug!

  5. UGH - no fun. I just put a call out today on Facebook asking for advice and suggestions on a vacuum since I'll soon be in the market for one. Sounds like yours works GREAT!!!

  6. ugh, that stinks!! I'd hate that! I hate anything that makes extra messes, lol! I'd get really annoyed and probably give it to someone or sell it. I've never had one shed for quite that long. You have to really love it to keep it around!
