My husband and I were chatting about buying my son a lego table for his birthday. We looked around and found a cheap one for $50 but it didn't look very sturdy. The only other one we found was a wooden table at Toys R' Us for $160! It included the table and two chairs and that's it. We were going to buy it but then decided he could just use his desk and settled the matter... until I found a plastic table sitting on the side of the road for free. It was in perfect shape so I scooped it up, wiped it down with Lysol wipes and put it in his room. And the brainstorm began! I picked up a large Lego base and some Super Glue (Gorilla glue would be good too), and glued it to the top of the table. That's it! I let it dry a few hours and revealed it to my son. It was an INSTANT hit.
I chose to use only one square tile because my son likes to drive around his set-up, and he can still place other bases around it. If you get the table the right size you could place 4 of the squares on the tabletop and have a larger space to work with! I am actually considering doing so as the Lego collection grows. The Super Glue is pretty stuck, but with a little muscle power I think I can get it to come up... there will definitely be pulling and tugging involved if I try.
Great idea and a lovely project! Those little table & chair sets are quite cheap and easy to find - and Ikea (in UK anyway) offer wooden or foiled-board table & chair sets for little people, which are also quite cheap - in case plastic doesn't appeal. I made my DS a hand-painted table top when he was small, to play with his little die-cut "Thomas the Tank Engine" engines. You could use clip-art images, printed out with your computer, cut out and stuck down, then covered with two or three coats of varnish - trains, butterflies, fairy house... But I think a Lego table is the Best idea!
We host a linky party “Help a Momma Out” every Tuesday. This would be a perfect link up! Please feel free to add it We appreciate it! Thanks for sharing!
