As I've told you all before, my dog Mushu has serious stomach issues, including a bowel condition known as Colitis. He is on medicine for that, along with a prescription antacid that he takes twice a day. Unfortunately I pulled a dumb move and forgot to give him his antacid pill Sunday morning, so by lunch time we found two spots where he had vomited on my WHITE berber carpet. Luckily it is just the stomach acid, but it is BRIGHT yellow and is a bear to get clean. (Bear with me, I'm getting to the point, really!).
I can't really say why I decided to give this a try, but I sprayed the spot with my regular carpet cleaning spray, put a slice of bread over the spot and then covered that with a towel (obviously I didn't want the little bugger eating the bread or I'd have a whole other mess on my hands!). I left it for a few hours and when I came back, voila! The stain was gone. The biggest problem I had cleaning these types of stains in the past was that once you sprayed and dabbed, it tended to spread the yellow tint outward and I had to work even harder to contain. Using the bread it absorbed the moisture, taking the yellow tinge with it!
I grabbed the vacuum and ran it over the spots a few times, sprayed it once more and dabbed (only for germ purposes, the stain was gone) and called it a day.
Weird, I know. And no, I didn't take pictures, that would be gross, but trust me it worked. I guess I can grab a picture of the none stained rug tonight if you really want one...

Brilliant! Thanks for sharing that tip- I'm sure I will need it one of these days.
ReplyDeleteI am definitely going to try that the next time I have a mess to clean up - with 5 cats it happens often!
ReplyDeleteI'll have to remember this one. Thanks for the tip!
