Hi! I'm Kristen from My Covered Bridge. I am so thrilled to be over here on seven thirty three! Since I'm still pretty new to this blogging world, let me introduce myself. I'm a happily married stay-at-home mom with four not so little kids. My husband, Craig, and I are completely remodeling and decorating a home we bought six years ago. I love diving into these projects - and now I love sharing them with everyone through my blog!
I am very excited to explain how we made our king size headboard - on the cheap! Craig and I took a trip to Buffalo ReUse - it's a local architectural salvage store - and found an old door for $10-
I really liked the simplicity and symmetry and knew it would work perfectly. It had a little damage from the old hardware-
I filled the holes with wood putty and sanded everything down-
Then I filled the joints with caulk-
I added two coats of Valspar New Black paint (which I had leftover from another project)-
Once that was dry, we hung it up. To do this, we first anchored a furring strip into the studs (just below the top of the mattress)-
We had the furring strip leftover from another project (we used it to make a dance floor for my daughter's birthday party. You can check that out here). Then, we rested the door on top-
Once we had it centered, I held it in place while Craig screwed the top into the studs-
And here's what it looked like -
Now - the before and after-
We love how this project turned out! And for $10 - it's a very dramatic change! Check out all of my projects at My Covered Bridge. And I really want to thank Kim for having me here today! I had SO much fun sharing this project!

Looks terrific!
