Everyone deserves a smile!

1 comment:

Have you ever heard of Operation Smile?  It is a great charity organization that provides surgical services for children and young adults born with cleft lips, cleft palates and other facial deformities.  Many of these children are unable to eat, speak, socialize or smile. In some places these children are shunned and rejected.  And more often than not, their parents are unable to afford the medical expenses necessary to correct their deformity.

The organization is made up of medical volunteers, student youth programs, and community volunteers.  One of those volunteers is Campusbookrentals.com, who has teamed up with Operation Smile for 2011 and have committed to donating enough to cover a minimum of 1,000 life changing surgeries.  If you have a child or grandchild in college, or you ARE a college student, consider renting your textbooks from Campusbookrentals.com because for EVERY book rented in 2011, they will donate a portion of those proceeds to Operation Smile with their sights set on meeting and exceeding their goal of 1,000 lives changed.  And not only that, renting your textbooks is WAY cheaper then purchasing them outright.  Both of my younger brother and sister used this service and they had no complaints.  Every textbook they needed was available and came in a timely fashion.  Shipping (back and forth) is all prepaid, so just drop your books in the envelope provided and drop off at your local UPS drop-off site and you are set!

Give a child a smile today!

DISCLAIMER: This post is sponsored by Campusbookrentals.com, who is providing me with a chocolate fruit basket in thanks for my helping spread the word on their Make a Difference Program.

Organizational Changes

No comments:

Many of you already noticed some of the changes I made last week, including my updated project and tutorial page, with clearer thumbnails and links to many of my projects and tutorials (obviously).

I also created a page for my party ideas so that those are easier to find.  I've noticed a larger following of party planners since my Candy Shoppe and Pinkalicious parties were posted!  Shout out to all you party planners!  Got a great Rock Star GLAM party coming in October!
AND I also re-organized my menu into two separate bars for your clicking pleasure.

Lastly, I have begun truncating my post. The post of the day will not be abbreviated, but the rest of them will be!

Do you need some reorganization of your site, or maybe a whole new design?  Click on over to my blog design site and maybe I can help you out!

Got Stains? Use Bread.

4 comments:

As I've told you all before, my dog Mushu has serious stomach issues, including a bowel condition known as Colitis.  He is on medicine for that, along with a prescription antacid that he takes twice a day.  Unfortunately I pulled a dumb move and forgot to give him his antacid pill Sunday morning, so by lunch time we found two spots where he had vomited on my WHITE berber carpet.  Luckily it is just the stomach acid, but it is BRIGHT yellow and is a bear to get clean. (Bear with me, I'm getting to the point, really!).

I can't really say why I decided to give this a try, but I sprayed the spot with my regular carpet cleaning spray, put a slice of bread over the spot and then covered that with a towel (obviously I didn't want the little bugger eating the bread or I'd have a whole other mess on my hands!).  I left it for a few hours and when I came back, voila! The stain was gone.  The biggest problem I had cleaning these types of stains in the past was that once you sprayed and dabbed, it tended to spread the yellow tint outward and I had to work even harder to contain.   Using the bread it absorbed the moisture, taking the yellow tinge with it!

I grabbed the vacuum and ran it over the spots a few times, sprayed it once more and dabbed (only for germ purposes, the stain was gone) and called it a day.

Weird, I know.  And no, I didn't take pictures, that would be gross, but trust me it worked.  I guess I can grab a picture of the none stained rug tonight if you really want one...

Happy Monday!

Candy Bar Bouquet Tutorial

10 comments:
You all know I love finding inspiration on Pinterest, and that is exactly where I was inspired to create my newest project:

Through Pinterest I found this one that used boxes of candy for a vase, but in my mind, a flower pot sounded much easier!  I also chose to dress my candy bar's  up a bit.

I have never seen or heard of a Cool Tie before, so when Sew Woodsy sent me the link to her step-by-step tutorial I was pretty impressed!  What a great idea!  I think these would be perfect for sports, theme parks, and hot-flash-experiencing-grandma's!  Wear 'em around your head like a headband, or neck like a tie and cool your body down.  LOVE IT!

Life Happens...

7 comments:

and that is where I've been.  Dealing with life and unexpected events and occurrences that add unneccessary stress to ones life.  So no, I haven't been anywhere near my craft table, or sewing machine, or any other tool, but I have been dealing with a lot!

School is only three weeks away, and I need to get on the ball with school shopping and haircuts.  My dog is also going in for his ACL surgery this Friday, following which he is not allowed any activity for one week, and then LIGHT activity (meaning out to do his business, maybe a walk down the driveway and back).

Having kids always adds a mystery factor to life because you never know what illness they may come in contact with or what stage they might go through.  I am very lucky in that I have a great life, with a great husband, kids and family and I am not complaining by any means!

I may not be crafting in the traditional sense, you guys ARE keeping me super busy designing special, one-of-a-kind blogs, so my creativity does have an outlet.  To be honest, my design business is taking up the rest of my spare time.  And I enjoy it just as much as my other crafting, so although I don't have many projects to share with you, you can still stop by seven thirty three - - - custom blog design to see my creations!
Although I might not be posting my own projects here for a short while, I sure hope you will still stop by to see what others post in our weekly parties and to find what fun things I find around the web with my Fun Feature Friday post!  I will be back just as soon as I have time for crafting!

It's a Pool Party!

2 comments:
My sister-in-law asked if I could create an invitation for her children's combined summer birthday party later this month.  Of course I said yes, and this is what I came up with:
Fun, vibrant summer colors to get everyone ready for a splish-splashing good time!  It kinda wants to make me go jump in my pool!

As I type this I am enjoying my family (my parents and younger brother joined us with the camper right next door) while sitting around telling ghost stories by the campfire... some people say camping with electronics isn't "real" camping.  You can't see me, but I'm thumbing my nose at them!  Now to turn the laptop off and tell a scare-the-pants-off-the-kids type of story!  Hope you're having a great weekend!

FFF: Easy Ice Cream Cookie Cake

1 comment:
I'm off on another long camping weekend in our new camper.  Sitting in my comfy, recliner camping chair watching the kiddos hunt bugs.  Really wishing I could swim, but my orthopedic doctor said I had to wait for my portal holes to totally heal over, so no waterslide for me this weekend... yes - the campground has an AMAZING waterslide and I'm jealous I don't get to go on!  Have a great weekend... and you better get a napkin ready for the following decadent treat!
In my house we are HUGE fans of ice cream cakes.  When I saw this one my mouth started to water!  Doesn't it look delicious?  It's like a huge chips ahoy ice cream cookie!  And it does look pretty easy to make!

Head on over to Something Swanky to find out how to make this yummy-goodness!

Camping Queen

 {I enjoyed several of each of these this weekend!}

I didn't get much crafting done this weekend.  Instead I was off enjoying some family time with our new camper.  If you want to learn a little more about me and my family you can hope on over to our camping journal, The Camping Conner's.  My brother puts notches on his walking stick for all his camping trips, I decided I would capture memories with my camera and write a journal entry for each trip.  Come camp with us!

But before you go, I would really, really appreciate if you would show the love by heading over to Babble.com's Top 50 Craft Mom Blogs and vote for me... I've fallen to #55 and REALLY would love to stay in the top 50!  I appreciate you taking the time (no login required - just click the thumbs-up symbol!).

My Hair Kick

7 comments:

I've been on a hair kick lately.  I'm loving Pinterest and YouTube - they are great resources for fun hair styles.

I tried the sock bun - which I love rockin' during the day and the wave it provides the following day is nice too.  My daughter and little sister both were WOW'ed the first time they saw me with my hair this way - I didn't think it was THAT special, but they loved it. (The above bun was thrown together dry prior to PT so it isn't the best, example, but I love the 'do!).

And then I got the bright idea for a mini sock bun, so I clipped the toes off little munchkins sock and voila, you have a mini-me! The sock showed through a tiny bit, but it was too cute!

I've tried the no-heat curls with an elastic band.  Nope - didn't work for my hair... my hair is straight with curls underneath and it does not like to behave.  We did try it out on my daughter last night:

And this morning:

The front turned out really good.  I don't think the back was damp enough, but we will definitely try this again.  The reaction she got at daycare nailed that down!  She was quite impressed with her curls.

I did a small french braid on my little sis with a cute clip:

And my 2 year old got to rock her own french braids:

Most of the time I wear my hair like this:

{although this was a no blow dry, no product day}

I really need to make my hair work with some of these:

Braided Ponytail by Hair Romance - this blog chronicles 30 styles in 30 days!
I probably could swing this - but my hair is so thick and layered, it would be hard to do on myself.  I can french braid my own hair though, so I have that going for me.

Messy Side Ponytail by A Cup of Jo - this site is all about amazing hairstyles!
Love how boho-chic this is.

This is the perfect Everyday Hairstyle from The Beauty Department - it looks easy but I don't think it would hold in my hair.

So tell me, how have you been wearing your hair?  Share the inspiration!
