6 A few layout changes and a HOW-TO

March 13, 2012

If you visit the blog on a regular basis you may have noticed a few layout changes earlier today.

Just a few small changes to the Post Header - I moved the post date BELOW the post title and added in a divider.  I also added a border around my post footer and dropped my post divider.  I also moved my Linkwithin gadget so that it only appears on post pages rather than under each post on the homepage.  I really want to make sure I promote older posts, but I hated how cluttered it made the front page look.
All pretty minor changes, but I think it improves the readability of the site.

But the biggest change (and most exciting for me) was the addition of the RECENT POSTS gadget above my posts.  I really like the WordPress Featured Post widget and have been keeping my eye out for something similar for us Blogger users and finally found one that had the look that I wanted as well as was customizable.  I found it at Blogger Plugins.  It has been reliable and I was able to customize it the way I wanted.

I also removed the numbered comments and enabled my comment threading!  I'm still holding out hope that Blogger will make their comment forms more like WordPress where a commenter can type in their name, blog URL and email!

And remember, if you need a blog overhaul, I'm your gal!  You can find my portfolio and pricing at www.733design.com!
Happy Creating! ~Kim

  1. Ooooh I love those changes! Funny how a small thing like where the date is can actually make a big impact.

  3. Hi! I installed the recent post widget a couple of days ago after I saw how fabulous it looks on your blog. Mine stopped working this morning and I noticed that yours was not working earlier today either. Yours is now working again and I was wondering how you fixed it. I cannot figure out how to fix mine. I'd appreciate any advice. Thanks so much!

    1. Yes! Change http://blogergadgets.googlecode.com/svn/trunk/recentposts.js to http://bloggergadgets.googlecode.com/files/recentposts_orig.js

That is the one issue with using a third party gadget. If they have an issue or go down, it causes problems on your end.
