Bright Red Duct Tape Wallet

My nephews 10th birthday was yesterday and when I asked his mom what he wanted for a gift she said she really didn’t have a clue.  He has everything he needs, so what do you get a kid that has everything?
I sat on it a few days and had decided I might just get him a gift card or do a fun cash gift.
As I was crusing around Facebook, the chat window popped up from my SIL:

At first I thought it was her just passing along a message, but I pretty quickly figured out it was actually Noah, my nephew.  This just made my night.  I love that my nieces and nephews instantly think of me when they have a creative idea.  When he told his mom she asked if he knew if I actually knew how to make them.  His response?  “Mom, Aunt Kim can make anything!”  Awww!  Thanks for the vote of confidence buddy.
No, I had never made a duct tape wallet.  I have seen them before and even held one so I knew the construction of it was fairly simple.  I decided on how I would do the billfold, but wasn’t sure how I wanted to add the pockets… so of course I turned to trusty Google and came across an amazing tutorial from Crafty Nest.  Super easy to follow and the end result was exactly what I wanted.
Here is the bright red wallet for the birthday boy:
(The money stays… the cards do not.  LOL)
See!  It’s a KC original.  Hopefully that tag isn’t too girly…

I’m happy with the end result and it only took 30 minutes total.  Gotta love Duct Tape!  I posted this to my personal Facebook page and have received a request for one in blue and purple, a duct tape purse and a duct tape wedding gown…. and yes, people have made both of those last two!  Don’t believe me?  Here and here!

The above wallet was my second attempt.
To keep things real, below is my first.
Nothing inherently wrong with it, but I felt like I could make it a little better.
What have you made out of duct tape?
Happy Creating! ~Kim

Kim, this is one of the best gift ideas for kids I have seen. My husband has created his own duct tape wallets in the past but I never thought of them as a way to gift cash/gift cards. I love it! Totally pinned this one!

Thanks Nicole! I gave it to him last night and he was super excited. He said it was exactly what he wanted and as soon as he was able he switched everything from his old wallet to his new. I just love that kid!

You had me curious… I had to do a search for Duct Tape Flowers! There are some pretty amazing ones out there… man, duct tape is not only useful for holding together junker cars, but can also make some pretty cool stuff! HAHA.

My daughter went through a duct tape phase. She made roses, wallets and little purses as gifts for friends. She considered making a prom dress from duct tape, but when she got closer to the actual prom, she had second thoughts! We still buy fun colors and patterns. Just picked up a roll of mustache duct tape for her to take to college.
