This lovely little dinner tray.  I use it a lot while I'm blogging from the couch, the kids use it to sit and color at, and of course meals have been eaten on it as well from time to time.  We don't have an end table downstairs, so it actually gets a lot of use... as can be seen!

8 Good Thing I'm Crafty!

Picture this: 8:15 on Monday night, your 11 year old daughter comes down the stairs and say's "MOM!  Tomorrow is crazy hat day for Spirit Week.  What am I going to WEAR?!?"  Of course it's all out crisis mode.  She can't go to school without showing spirit!  This is where I'm thankful that I'm a crafty mama!  I could only imagine what someone would pull together if they didn't have fabric scraps and a glue gun laying around!  I told her to grab me an old baseball cap and to go brush her teeth and get ready for bed, I'd take care of it. Off to my craft room I went.  I pulled out some scraps, some embellishments and then dug through some of the kids toys.  I went with a Disney theme because a)we're going to Disney later this year and b)we had a decent amount of small figurines that would fit on a hat.

 

I glued the fabric on the hat, added the figurines and some other embellishments - including ears off from a crown we got at Disney on Ice last month.  Once finished I trekked upstairs to my daughters bedroom where she had been tucked in for the night.  Turned on her light and presented her with the hat and got a big "THAT is SOOO cool!"  So yea, I guess it makes it worth it to see that she appreciated the effort.  She even hopped out of bed to try it on in front of the mirror.  Mission accomplished. When I picked her up from daycare I asked her what people thought of her hat and she was like, "I literally (yes, she uses words like literally a lot) had 40-50 people stop me to look at my hat mom.  Everyone was asking how the heck we made it.   And they thought it was really cool."  So yea, I think it was worth it because I'm pretty sure I was her hero for the day! So ya'll I'm off for a lovely little vacation Sunday - Thursday.  The family and I are heading up to Mont Tremblant for the week for a little skiing, swimming and spa time.  I'm not sure how plugged in I'll be but we will have a giveaway running, as well as the weekly link parties, so I do hope you'll stop by!

30 Giveaway with Steen Health Solutions

When Krysta contacted me from Steen Health Solutions, a Shaklee Distributor,  about doing a review on their most popular cleaning solution, Basic H, I said "HECK YES!".  I'm an OCD cleaner.  I NEED a clean house.  If I see a mark on the wall, I'll grab my magic eraser and spend an error tracking down each little one!   For a while last year I had a house keeper and it was so amazing not coming home from work to completely stress out about cleaning my house.  I mean I still vacuumed everyday and mopped, etc, but the dusting and full-on cleaning was done once a week in a 4 hour stretch.  The tubs, toilets, everything was taken care of and then I just did the surface cleaning.  Unfortunatley, the house keeper became unreliable and I haven't found anyone up to par since!  SO, it is back on my shoulders.  I have now dedicated a 4 hour block on Sundays to cleaning, and then surface clean throughout the week.  I'm always looking for the best cleaner.  I usually use Windex Multipurpose on my coutners, cabinets, baseboards, and bathroom sinks.  For my kitchen sinks and bathtubs I use a combo of Softscrub with Bleach and a Magic Eraser.  And I am a total fan of the Scrubbing Bubbles Toilet Wands. 

7 How To: Create a Tutorial Gallery in Blogger

A long while ago I showed you how to create a tutorial gallery using either LinkyTools or Inlinkz.  Well that was before they went to paid services, so that may not be feasible for some of you now.  I just happened across Lauras Crafty Life and she has a great tutorial for creating a thumbnail tutorial gallery.  It will take some time and is a bit more work than just adding a link to a linky service, however, I think it would be worth the effort!

Remember my Craft Room Reveal from a few weeks ago?  I told you I would share how I created these simple embellished curtains:

 So true to my word, here we go.  Now I didn't actually document how I created the curtain.  It is a simple process.  Measure your window and then cut out your fabric panel.  You will need 1 inch wider and 2.25 inches longer than your window.  On three of the sides, fold 1/4" inch, fold again and iron so that the unfinished edge is hidden.  Sew the seam.  On the top, fold over 1/4 inch and iron.  Fold down 1.5 inch and sew along the edge, making a rod pocket.  If you are someone who needs images to follow, check out this tutorial from movita beaucoup, this is the same basic premise.

3 This Years Valentines

I was looking through Pinterest for some cute Valentine ideas when my son came in and saw the Superhero Lollipops from Zakka Life.  He immediately said "Mom, can we make those?!?"  Of course I said yes!  I printed off the capes and masks from Zakka life and he helped me cut them out.  We punched a hole in the cape and everything got a dab of hot glue to keep it in place.

 Since my son picked his Valentines, I pulled up some girl ideas on Pinterest and my daughter picked the butterfly lollipop from Skip to My Lou.  Again, a simple print and cut and we had some super sweet valentines.

8 My Business Cards

I decided I needed some business cards to carry around, so I came up with these using Avery Clean Edge Business Card stock.  Not bad for being printed at home:

The QR code leads to my blog when scanned by a smartphone.  I use QR codes for almost all the print items that leave my office for work.  I am such a fan!  I just had to put it on my cards as well. Now to work on some for my design business, http://www.733design.com/!

2 Super Simple Button Rings

On Superbowl Sunday our friend Krista brought over some yummy cupcakes.  One of them had a really cute football ring on top, so my son plucked it off and took off playing.  A short time later my youngest realized he had a ring and really wanted one.  Since I was trying to keep her entertained (nope, she didn't want to watch the game) I asked her if she wanted to make a ring.  I had no idea how I was going to do so but figured I could wing it.  And sure enough, after looking through my stash I grabbed some elastic thread, buttons and a little bling.

I tied the elastic thread around her finger and knotted it a few times.  After she picked the button and added some sticky rhinestones to it, I hot glued it to the knot of the elastic.  Voila!   A simple ring!   Of course my son wanted to make one to, so here is his creation - just two buttons glued together, then glued to the elastic thread:

CAUTION - Obviously these are small and easy to swallow and could potentionally be a choking hazard.  My daughter is not a child to put things in her mouth, so I am not horribly concerned, but she is only allowed to wear it in my prescence.  Please use caution if making for a child and would label this as not suitable for young children.  Now that that is out of the way, I WOULD recommend this as a simple, yet fun project for the tween age group!

2 Can Desserts Be Healthy And Taste Good?

Confession time - I'm a horribly picky eater.  Growing up my father had been forced to eat every piece of food on his plate, including liver, which he absolutely despised.  If he didn't eat it that night, he had to eat it for breakfast in the morning.  He vowed that his children would not have to endure that, so when I was young and said, "I DON'T LIKE THAT", I didn't have to eat it.  Now he regrets his decision to go to the totally opposite side from his childhood because I am so picky.  As I've grown older, it frustrates me to no end as well.  I have widen my pallette, but I am still picky.  I do try new things, but the majority of items I do not like.  I'm not a fan of veggies outside of onions, lettuce, green peppers and carrots.  I'm not a fruit fan outside of oranges, apples and grapes.  But I like my junk food, THAT I can eat prety well, so any way to add a healthy AND tasty alternative to my diet is always appreciated!  I also have made sure that my children do not follow in my footsteps and have implamented the "no thank you" bite.  They must try EVERY thing on their plate even if they think they don't like it they must give it a try with a "no thank you" bite.  But back to me - todays guest is perfect for me!  Most of the recipes she shares are a healthy alternative to sugar filled treats.  So please welcome Pamela from Pamela's Heavenly Treats!

2 Hey, Thanks!

I was going through my reader and catching up on some blogging reading when I came upon The CSI Project I was pleasantly surprised to see I made the Top 10 for this weeks organization challenge with my Weekly Meal Planner!  Rachel from Family Ever After was the guest judge and she had some wonderful things to say about my project, which is always such a good feeling!

0 No Sew Camera Strap Courtesy of AGAAGG

If you need further proof that Kimbo of A Girl and a Glue Gun is awesome (beyond the fact that her name is Kim), then go check out her adorbale no-sew camera strap.  Yup!  She used her glue gun.  I don't need a stinkin' padded camera strap.  I just want something cuter than the black and red, CANON labeled one I have!  SO, after seeing this tutorial I immediately stopped what I was doing, grabbed some fabric and went to town.  15 minutes later I had this bad boy:

 Crummy iPhone shot since... well, my camera is IN the picture!  If you follow me on Instagram or Twitter (@733blog) you'll have already seen this awesome picture... that's because I love to reward stalkers.  HAHAHA.  Just kidding.  I love you all. Really. Oh and hey, look!  There's my new chalkboard I painted on my craft room wall. Don't you just love the mini bunting?  I certainly do.
