It Takes A Village - A Mesothelioma Journey

No comments:
When Heather emailed me about guest posting about her battle with Mesothelioma, I decided to agree right away.   I know this isn't craft related, but I think it is important to help spread awareness.  I hope you'll read Heather's story and if you want to learn more you can visit her blog.

Many of you may have heard the saying “it takes a village” which means that in the best and worst of times, you can count on loved ones to surround you. My time of joy came on August 4th, 2005 when my daughter Lily was born through an emergency C-section. I went through a normal uneventful pregnancy without complication. During this joyous event, we were surrounded by our “village” – my parents, my husband’s family and many friends who came by to see Lily and congratulate us. With such a perfect event in our lives, we could never be prepared for the upcoming days of turmoil.

Hand Crocheted Bracelet & Headband

1 comment:

One of the first things I learned to make out of yarn is a yarn chain.  It is super easy and perfect for kids, especially tweens since they can turn it into a fun little bracelet or even a headband!  And it doesn't have to be yarn.  You can use any material that is long and narrow - I've used embroidery thread, leather strips, and fabric strips.

I follow both Mandy's blog, Sugar Bee Crafts and her hubby's blog, So I Married a Craft Blogger (HIL.A.RI.OUS.).  I saw it when Trevor posted and then later when Mandy shared the tutorial and immediately fell in love.  I even sent my husband an email asking if he was a Superdad like Trevor.  My son would LOVE this, and it's inexpensive to boot!

Giveaway with Cutting Edge Stencils

Remember my stenciled wall I did back in April of last year?
I still love it and get so many compliments on it.  The stencil came from Cutting Edge Stencils and was pretty simple, if time consuming, to use.  Want to see just how easy it is?  Check out their how-to video below:

NEW SHOP: SHERROD STUDIO & A DISCOUNT

6 comments:

I'm a pretty lucky girl.  I meet a lot of creative people through Blogging and Designing.  Kim of Sherrod Studio is one of those people.  I helped her with several of her blog and shop designs.  After a few months go by she contacted me about reviewing one of her bags to help promote her shop and really get it under way.  Of course, after looking over all of her new products, there was NO WAY I was going to say no!  I had a tough time deciding what product I wanted.  It was between this cute little pouch:

Knit Dress to Swimsuit Cover Up

No comments:

I had this blue knit dress I picked up a few years ago that I wore as a swimsuit cover up.  It was super comfy but never fit me right.  My daughter outgrew her cover up last year, so I decided to do a little modification and make her a new one out of my old one.  She wore it this past weekend while we were camping and received NUMEROUS compliments on it!  I think we were both beaming.  She got a kick out of telling people her mom made it.

Here is the horrible iPhone before shot:

And here's my beautiful daughter modeling her new cover up:

Don't you just love a good Refashion?

Love, love, love everything you all linked up to this weeks parties.
Below are a few of my favs! {Feel free to grab a featured button!}

My children love nesting dolls.  My mom has two sets and every time we go to her house they would pull them out.  We ended up buying a set when we were in Mexico because they love playing with them so much.  These Disney ones are priceless!  So cute and DIY too!  Learn how to make a set of your own at Repeat Crafter Me.

With the kids getting out of school I'm sure lots of mamas are scrambling for ideas to keep them entertained.  I LOVE this fun egg carton project from B-Inspired Mama.  Head on over and learn what her and her kiddos did to create this Egg Carton Jewelry Box.

This one is for the big guys in our life - DAD!  With Father's Day this Sunday this Reasons We Love Dad Bucket from Serving Pink Lemonade is super easy and really sweet.

Cassey {Big Sis} of Natural Nesters threw her husband a really fun Casino Party for his 30th.  I love that she hired a real bartender and black jack dealer to help with the event.  I say Hubby is a lucky Man!

Thanks to everyone who linked up!
Can't wait to see what you have in store for me next week.
Happy Creating! ~Kim

Crochet by Allie - A Review

1 comment:
Can't wear a monster hat without making a face, right?!?
I'm pretty excited to share with you this little shop called Crochet by Allie.  It is all handmade crochet items and let me tell you, the quality is amazing!  Allie sent me the monster hat for my almost 5 year old and I was so excited when I received it.  I was able to choose how many eyes, teeth, whether I wanted horns or spikes, whether I wanted ear flaps or not and what colors I wanted it to me.  I mean, this little critter was custom made to my specifications... actually I let my son do the choosing, so it was all him!  How awesome is that?  And that is standard!  Whoa! I can't wait for him to wear it this winter... though I can definitely wait for the snow to fly!

DIY Fry Favor Box

8 comments:

I'm back into full party planning mode with my sons 5th birthday coming up.  As you know we are going with an Army theme.  Invites have been mailed, supplies are all ordered and all the "extras" have been designed and I am currently assembling everything.

For favor boxes I decided to go with a Fry Box.  I created a template by sending my husband out to a local fast food restaurant and then deconstructing his large fry... after he ate them all of course.  I also found a template online and ended up using that for my box because I was able to size it the way I wanted it.  Either way works, I did both.

Best of the best of this weeks parties are...
{don't forget a button!}

Genius!  I've seen a version of this where you use three yards of fabric and 4 pillows, but I think Inspired by Family Magazine has the right idea - just use 4 pillow cases and sew them together!  Heck yeah!  I think I might give this one a go.  Oh and you'll also want to check out the Father's Day Gift Card holder she linked up.

My husband and I both have iPads and both love them, so this is perfect for him.  But of course, I had to do mine all digital 'cause that's how I roll.

Rock Painting for Kids

We had such a great time camping over Memorial Day weekend. My parents and two younger siblings, my older brother and his family, as well as his FIL joined us.  We went hiking to the top of Elmore Mountain (in Elmore, VT), kayaking, swimming in the lake, fishing, biking and more.  Seriously, I think this was our most fun trip yet.
